Peace & Blessings Folks

Hopefully this one will start some ongoing discussion.

What are some of the biggest challenges you face (faced) when you made the decision to be celibate?

How did you or do you overcome them and maintain your sanity (assuming you're still sane) ? :-)

`That's a big question isn't, if we're still sane? Smile

The biggest challenge for me is when I'm alone, not with someone else, and those feelings creep up. Sometimes they seem so powerful. I believe in the power of the mind. I do a sort of meditation that sends my vision breaking through that drive in me... if that makes any sense. It's not religious, but it feels very spiritual, as though I'm linking with something very, very powerful, eternal and simply beautiful.

I'm quite surprised this thread hasn't gone further and I hope more people will reply, because we need all the help we can get to keep ourselves in the state that we're in, when the world is hurling sexed up messages at all our senses and cajoling us to let go... I'm very young in the celibate jou
ey, but I'm firm in the knowledge of wanting to practice this for a while.

Here are some of the challenges I face:

1. The biggest one is knowing that I needn't do this, and opportunity lies in wait, within my grasp.

2. The prospect of setting goals that are either unpractical or 'bizarre' sometimes makes me self destruct and defeat my purpose.

3. The paucity of companionship in this jou
ey, and the feeling of loneliness. And at the same time, the awareness that companionship spawns attachment, which defeats the purpose of empowered, independent celibacy.

4. The ego. I'm a ----ing alpha male. I want that piece of *ss. No way anyone else is going to get it.

5. And of course, the toughest challenge, the physiological drive. The urge. The hot blooded response that catches you off guard.

I'm still developing ways to overcome these challenges. But I'll get there. I want this to work for me.

`Oh wow! I know these aren't recent replies but this was a very interesting post to read. Hmm lots of challenges come to mind. Celibacy is alot of the reason I haven't been in a real relationship in a long time b/c I told myself next time around I was gonna do it right God's way. First challenge is the insecurity that you could lose someone you really hit it off w/when you have to break the news and it's not received well. The other challenge is the physical temptation and knowing you need boundaries but not knowing where to put them

`I'm celibate and proud of it, I have been for over 10 years. I wake up knowing I have my sanity because I did not let go of my Morales and commitments I have made to myself and God. It's nice to know I'm in control of my body and not letting it be used as a tool and tossed. I'm attractive and not in need of proving it to anyone. I don't need to fear of waking up with a STD or a unplanned pregnancy. I will wait till marriage and if that should not happen well I know I have made some wonderful male friends that I don't need to be ashamed of knowing because we were just that'friends'nothing more. I enjoy my celibate life and the gains I have from it, like listening with my ears and not my hormones and chasing after someone mistaking lust for love. I can see the red flags that show me that this person is not for me. I'm not driven to prove anything to anyone. I'm happy and free of all the drama I see my friends in,jumping from guy to guy and making them their bed buddies only in to feel used in the end. I can say that I have joy and peace in this life style I have chosen without the endless nights of regret and heartache. GOD BLESS
